Visiting the Spitzer Science Center --
A Page for NITARP Participants

General: Upon your arrival, you will be met by a member of our EPO staff and/or by your support scientist. The EPO office is in room 223 on the second floor of the Keith Spalding Building. If you are bringing any students, you must bring with you their signed student Authorization/Medical Release forms (please read our Visiting Student Policy). Also, if you have a laptop, please bring it.

Additional Forms: It is possible that during your visit to the SSC, newspaper reporters or news television crews will want to do a story on your visit. You may also be involved in audio interviews that will be on radio or placed online. For this purpose, we would like to have you bring the following forms for you and your students (signed by their parents) with you when you visit, or FAXed to us prior to your visit.

Location: The Spitzer Science Center (SSC) is located in the Spalding Administration Building on the southeast corner of California Boulevard and Wilson Avenue. It is labeled as Building 6 on this interactive Caltech campus map.

    Spitzer Science Center

    Pasadena, CA 91125
    Phone (626) 395-8000
    FAX (626) 432-7484

Hours: The SSC's normal operating hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. The buildings are locked between about 5:45pm and 7am on weekdays and all day on weekends. If you would like to have access to the SSC during these hours you may request an access card for the duration of your visit.

Parking: Parking is available in the underground parking structure just south-east of the Keith Spaulding building - see the Caltech parking map. Visitors must have a Caltech Parking Permit, which can be obtained from the pay station located at the California St. parking structure, or from your IPAC/SSC/MSC Project. Parking permits, obtained from the projects MUST be dated the date you are parking, undated permits will result in a City of Pasadena parking ticket. Individuals with handicapped access, must also display a parking permit, but can then follow regular handicapped parking regulations. Hours of enforcement are Monday - Friday, 7am to 5 p.m. Red zones, fire lanes, no parking zones, handicapped spaces, and certain posted reserved spaces are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Limited parking may be available just south of the Morrisroe Bldg at the entry to Tournament Park. A Caltech parking permit is required to park in this area. No Caltech parking is permitted inside Tournament Park gates or at the extreme far end of the lot.

You may currently park without a permit on the east side of Wilson, north of Tournament Park, for an unlimited time. The east side of Wilson just south of the Tournament Park driveway, however, is a permit only zone until 8pm (tickets are frequently given). The west side of Wilson is now a permit-only zone until 2:00 PM. See the Caltech parking website for additional information.

Athenaeum: If you are staying at the Caltech Athenaeum, visit Athenaeum website for directions and additional information. Parking is available in the Athenaeum parking lot.
