Ask an Astronomer for KIDS! - Pluto's Moon?

Does Pluto have any moons?

Yes, Pluto has three known moons. The largest of Pluto's moons is called Charon. Charon is about half the size of Pluto and weighs about 7 times less than Pluto. Astronomers think that Charon might be covered with water ice. In 2005, astronomers discovered that Pluto has two additional moons. These two newly discovered moons have been named Nix and Hydra. Nix and Hydra are very small moons and are thought to be between 30 and 100 miles across.
