Education & Outreach

Sally Seebode San Mateo High School
San Mateo, CA

January 2012

Ms. Seebode has rejoined NITARP as a mentor teacher this year, and has just started with her new team. Please see the AAS 2012 page for a summary of the new class's activities. She writes:

I was surprised how many people I now know after 2 AAS [meetings]. There were quite a few people who remembered me and were interested in talking with me. This was fun (I like talking with people) and disruptive as I did not make as many talks as I anticipated.

March 2011

There is a nice article in the Mercury News about this team's work.

January 2011

Ms. Seebode presented the results of her 2010 team's work at the Seattle AAS in January 2011. Here is the team's science poster and education poster. Ms. Seebode was the first author on the science poster. Please see the AAS 2011 page for a summary of this team's activities.

Ms. Seebode greatly enjoyed her NITARP and AAS experience, and plans to continue her research into Epsilon Aurigae.

Ms. Seebode also got some good local press coverage for her team.

August 2010

Ms. Seebode visited IPAC in August 2010. Please see the Summer 2010 visits page.

January 2010

Ms. Seebode is a new NITARP teacher this year, and has just started with her team. She is excited about getting kids involved in the program.

She led a poster presentation at the January 2010 AAS on the first results from this team's Epsilon Aurigae program. The poster and pictures from the AAS are available here.

She writes that attending the AAS meeting was a lot of fun, and "I felt like I got to meet a lot of people and learn some cool things, and think about how to best educate people. It feels like a lot of people with a common goal, very connected and leaving was kind of sad, like separation. Other than my group, I did not run into another NITARP teacher after Sunday; I don't think I realized how big this conference was."
