Infrared Zoo Gallery - Caterpillar
Infrared Caterpillar
|
Insects are cold-blooded, which means that they cannot generate their own body
heat. Instead they take on the temperature of their surroundings. This
cold-blooded caterpillar appears very dark (cool) in the infrared compared to
the warm-blooded human who is holding it. In the images below you can
see some of the heat from the person's hand shining through the thinner areas
of the caterpillar's hairs, showing the caterpillar's structure.
