Horses are warm-blooded mammals. The thermal infrared images of the horses,
shown below, were taken on a very warm day. In these images, the coolest
areas of the horses are their manes and tails, while the warmest areas are the
eyes, mouth and nose area, and the inner parts of the ears. Other warm areas
are places where the horses were warmed by sunlight.
