This cold-blooded millipede appears dark in the infrared compared to the warm hand holding it. Millipedes have temperatures similar to that of their surroundings. Notice how the millipede's temperature is about the same as the air temperature (the region surrounding the hand). Humans are warm-blooded and generate their own heat. |
