Otters are covered by a coat of thick hairs which lies over a dense undercoat
of fur that helps them stay "water proof". This fur keeps them warm by trapping
their body heat. The otter's eyes and ears shine brightly in the infrared while
its tail is the coolest area. The darkest areas on the otter's body are places
where its fur is thickest.
