Why is the Big Dipper sometimes upside down?

The Big Dipper sometimes appears upside down because of Earth's rotation. The Big Dipper is located near the North Star (Polaris) in the night sky which is near the point in the northern sky around which all of the other stars appear to rotate as Earth spins. As Earth rotates, the Big Dipper appears to circle around the sky near the North Star, causing it to appear at different angles to us on the ground.
