This images shows the view of Andromeda at visible wavelengths, highlighting the starlight in the galaxy. The center of the galaxy in this view is dominated by a large bulge that overwhelms the inner spirals seen in dust. The dust lanes are faintly visible in places, but only where they can be seen in silhouette against background stars.

This is a false-color image created from KPNO visible-light data where B-band light is represented as blue, V-band light as green and R-band light as red.
