Infrared World

Everything in our world glows in the infrared!

So guess what!

Most of us use some form of infrared technology in our lives every day: we change channels on our TVs with infrared remote controls; toilets in eco-friendly restrooms flush automatically using infrared sensors; supermarket cashiers use infrared scanners to read bar codes; restaurants keep food warm with infrared lamps; and rescue workers use infrared technology to search for missing persons.

[TODO there are notes about this section see google docs

Infrared technology is used in many different ways; explore several of them here!

Fun Fact

Shooting stars are actually tiny pieces of rock and dust that are burning up in our atmosphere. Many of these particles are left over from the tails of passing comets, so you could say you're seeing a falling comet tail, rather than a falling star.
